Il 9 febbraio scorso sono scappati dal più grande centro europeo di
vivisezione su primati, il centro olandese BPRC, che "ospita" ben 1600
scimmie, due macachi Rhesus, che sono poi stati nuovamente riacciuffati.
L'associazione animalista di cui sopra, che si batte da anni affinche' il
laboratorio sia chiuso e le scimmie siano trasferite nel rifugio per animali
esotici di Stichting AAP o in altri rifugi ci chiede:
1) di scrivere una mail di protesta a:

[email protected]
facendo attenzione che l'oggetto sia:
T.a.v. mevr. Maria van der Hoeven
(la persona responsabile dell'esistenza del centro)
2) di diffondere il messaggio a tutti i vostri conoscenti perché facciano
altrettanto
La protesta è già attiva anche in Belgio, Inghilterra, Germania, Francia,
Australia, Giappone, Stati Uniti e tantissime altre nazioni ancora.
L'azione è attiva fino al 19 di febbraio
Qui di seguito la lettera che potete inviare con un semplice copia-incolla.
La lettera chiede come sia stata possibile la fuga di 2 scimmie, e se questo
non dimostri un'incapacita' da parte dei gestori del centro di tenere bene
gli animali, se le scimmie erano infette, se ora stanno bene dopo la cattura,
e chiede infine di chiudere il laboratorio e trasferire le scimmi in un
rifugio.

Dear Maria v/d Hoeven,
With absolute horror I heard about the escape of two Rhesus macaques from the
BPRC- Biomedical Primate Research Centre in Rijswijk, the Netherlands.
Because of this incident I have a couple of questions:
- How is it possible that two monkeys can escape from the largest primate
center of Europe? Wouldn't this show the inability of the BPRC in housing the
animals and therefore also taking care of any animals?
- Were the two monkeys infected with a disease? If so, which disease and
could they pose any threat to the health of humans?
- Can you inform me about the welfare of the recaptured monkeys? I have no
doubt that hunting down the animals and then tranquilise them with a dart,
seriously distresses the animals! Will these monkeys get extra care? If so,
please inform me about what extra care these poor animals will get then.
- It's not the first time animals escape from the BPRC. We can only wait till
a monkey which is infected with a very dangerous disease escapes and spreads
this disease among the Dutch population. Wouldn't you agree that the only way
to guarantee the safety of the animals of the BPRC and the citizens of
Rijswijk in particular and the Netherlands as a whole would be closing down
the Rijswijk site?
Because of yet another BPRC mishap in a very short time (think of the death
of Walter and Coen last year....!) I urge you to immediately close down the
BPRC and release all animals to Stichting AAP or another appropriate sanctuary!
It's simply criminal that 1600 animals are still being used in medieval
