Updated Chart Comparing Alternatives Offered at Veterinary Schools
in North America

For those who are interested in comparing which U.S. and Canadian
veterinary schools are using alternatives and which are still including
terminal surgeries and other harmful procedures in their curricula, AVAR
has a newly updated chart available on our website at http://www.avar.org

The chart was compiled by Dr. Susan B. Krebsbach, AVAR's science
consultant and editor of AVAR's Alternatives newsletter, based on
responses from the veterinary schools. In addition to identifying which
schools still have terminal surgeries and which offer alternatives, the
chart also includes information on the types of alternatives offered,
the source of cadavers, whether the school is participating in a spay-neuter
program and the types of skills models used.

To access the chart, go to http://www.avar.org and click on the link for "Comparison
of Alternatives Offered by Veterinary Schools" under the Resources
section. The chart is available in either pdf or excel format. Or to go
directly to the chart, go to http://www.avar.org/comparisonofalternativeschart.pdf
or http://www.avar.org/comparisonofalternativesnew.xls

Of note, based on the information provided for this survey, 13 of the 28
veterinary schools in the United States now no longer offer terminal
surgeries in their core courses.
