The American Academy of Dermatology is alerting its dermatologists to methylisothiasolinone. Alone or in combination with methylcholoroisothiasolinone, the preservative “can be found in some face creams, mascaras, shampoos, body washes and even wet wipes.” Unfortunately, the AAD is “calling it the contact allergen of the year because it’s causing skin rashes at an increasing rate.” Some people who use products containing the substance are ending up with contact dermatitis as a result of an allergic reaction.
